Babysitter arrested after 9-year-old boy took his younger sister for joyride and crashed car

(Scroll down for video) A woman was arrested after failing to watch two children who were left in her care.

Police in South Carolina, said that a mother left her two children with her roommate, 30-year-old Mary Frances Harmon of Clover, who agreed to babysit them.

However, the children got hold of their babysitter’s car keys and they went out for a joyride while their mother was at work.

The 9-year-old boy drove the vehicle while his 6-year-old sister sat in the passenger seat. They drove around the mobile home park on Mosteller Street.

The boy managed to drive for some time and he even waved to a neighbor.

The neighbor said that she immediately got out of her car in order to stop the child from driving, but it was too late as he crashed into a nearby tree.

Officers found the children in the vehicle. Thankfully, they were not injured. Officer also found hydrocodone pills in the car. However, the babysitter refused to take responsibility for them.

She blamed the children. According to police, Harmon said that the children placed the drugs in the car. However, after she was arrested by police, they found a baggie with one hydrocodone pill inside Harmon’s bra.

Harmon was charged with two counts of child neglect and two counts of possession of drugs. She is being held on $16,000 bond.
