A teenager died of alcohol poisoning while celebrating her 18th birthday with family and friends, according to police in Australia.

Thornlie police launched an investigation into the death of 18-year-old Nicole Emily Bicknell, who died in her home after drinking a beverage that was 95% alcohol.

According to Bicknell’s brother and boyfriend, the birthday girl invited about 45 friends to join her at her home to celebrate her milestone of becoming an adult.

At the beginning of the party, Bicknell told everyone that she was going to drink 18 shots of alcohol to celebrate her 18th birthday.

After downing 18 shots and consuming additional alcoholic beverages during a drinking game, Bicknell was still partying hard.

At around 1:00 a.m., Bicknell’s mother went to bed.

Bicknell then grabbed a bottle of Polmos Spirytus Rektyfikowany, which is 95% alcohol, and began drinking straight from the bottle.

After a few minutes, Bicknell sat down on a chair and fell unconscious. Bicknell’s boyfriend, Jason Mark Roberts, put her to bed, and watched her to make sure she was breathing.

At some point, he fell asleep. When he woke up around 5:00 a.m., he noticed that Bicknell was not breathing and her lips were blue.

He called for help, and paramedics rushed her to a hospital, where she died. Tests showed that Bicknell died from acute alcohol toxicity with early pneumonia and aspiration.
