(Scroll down for video) A woman went from being a productive citizen who was independent and caring for her animals, to a disabled woman who is being cared for by family.

Anna Maria Giacomi, who loves animals, was on a commercial farm in Georgia, when a donkey she had been feeding for five years attacked her.

The donkey latched onto her hand, dragging Giacomi into its pen. The donkey bit and chewed on her arm and leg. Someone came to her rescue and Giacomi was rushed to a hospital.

She underwent 11 painful surgeries in just two months. Sadly, doctors failed to notice that Giacomi contracted a flesh-eating bacteria.

In order to save her life, doctors were forced to amputate one of Giacomi’s arms and one leg.

Giacomi already left the hospital, but she can no longer be on her own. She was forced to move to Florida, where she lives with her son so that he can take care of her.

Giacomi said that she had no idea that a donkey can get so aggressive.
