People were surprised to learn that thieves stole a large quantity of food from a church, according to police in Ontario, Canada.

Ingersoll police said that the thieves broke into the second floor of the church, and stole 200 turkey pies, which were stored in a freezer.

The turkeys were packed individually, and were meant to be sold for profit at $4 each. The thieves left behind several turkey pies in the ground and three in the freezer.

Gladys Mott led a team of volunteers who cooked the turkey pies in order to raise money to repair the old church. The St. James Anglican Church estimated the turkeys to cost around $1,000.

Police urged anyone with information about the stolen turkeys to come forward.
