17-year-old girl stabs in teacher in chest while trying to knife another student

(Scroll down for video) A teenage girl got herself into a lot of trouble by using a knife in a fight with a classmate and stabbing her teacher, according to police in New York.

Syracuse police said that they have arrested 17-year-old Zhuantina Hayes, after being accused of stabbing her teacher in the chest.

According to the police investigation, on Thursday, at approximately 10:30 a.m., officers responded to the Corcoran High School, which is located at 919 Glenwood Avenue, in regards to reports of a stabbing.

A Syracuse Police School Resource Officer reported that a 24-year-old male had been stabbed and requested that an ambulance respond.

The victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital by AMR Ambulance for treatment of a stab wound to his upper left chest and his right forearm.

The victim was listed in serious, but stable condition.

Witnesses at the scene reported that here was fight on the third floor of the school between two female students, and the teacher was trying to break up the fight.

While attempting to do so, the victim was stabbed by one of the girls. Hayes was charged with assault in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree.

She was booked into the Onondaga County Justice Center.

There were no other injuries reported during this incident.

School officials did place the school in a “stay in place status,” which kept students in the room they were already in.

The school returned to normal operations shortly after the investigation was completed.
