Police are looking to arrest the pet owner who dumped a badly wounded dog at the side of a road, and left it there to die, according to police in the United Kingdom.

The RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is investigating after the dog was left to die, tied up in a garbage bag and dumped at the side of a road.

A member of the public contacted the RSPCA at 11: 30 p.m. on Tuesday, after they found the dog on Dorset Road, in Saltley, Birmingham.

The dog was alive, but was in very bad shape.

The dog had been placed in the garbage bag, which had been tied tightly.

The dog had three large wounds on its body, all of which had been infested with maggots.

It is thought that the dog, a Staffordshire bull terrier-cross, was around six years old.

An RSPCA officer took the dog to the charity’s Birmingham Animal Hospital.

However the dog’s condition deteriorated overnight.

A vet made the decision to put the dog to sleep on Wednesday morning, to prevent further suffering.

RSPCA inspector Mike Scargill, who is investigating, said: “Quite simply, this poor dog was left to die, in a garbage bag, alone at the side of a road.

“He was dumped like a piece of rubbish. It is not acceptable to treat an animal in this way, and I am sure that many people will be sickened to hear that someone did this to an innocent dog.

“This dog suffered a great deal unnecessarily, and we are keen to find out who did this.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have information regarding the extremely callous and degrading behavior that this poor dog was subjected to during the last days of his life to contact us on 0300 123 8018. All calls are confidential.”
