The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office said that they have arrested 22-year-old Tun Lon Sein, after being accused of assaulting a flight attendant and jumping out of the plane.

Sein has been charged with interference with flight crew members and attendants on a commercial aircraft. If convicted, Sein faces up to 20 years in prison.

According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Thursday, on American Airlines Flight 5242. As the plane was moving away from the gate at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Sein got up from his seat.

When Sein was told to get back into his seat, he ran towards a door. When a flight attendant tried to restrain him, Sein tried to bite her.

He then opened the plane door and jumped out. He was detained on the runway. The plane was forced back to the gate, and all passengers had to be checked again.

The incident caused the flight to arrive 1 and a half hours late to New Bern, North Carolina.
