35-year-old Willie Cory Godbolt of Mississippi, was upset after his wife left him and went to live at her mother’s house, which is located in the 2800 block of Lee Drive in Bogue Chitto.

Police were called to a home for a domestic dispute after Godbolt went to his mother-in-law’s house at 11:30 p.m., and he wanted to take his two children home, but his estranged wife refused.

He then opened fired, killing three women, his mother-in-law, her sister and her aunt. His wife managed to run away with her stepfather and her two children.

The three deceased people were identified as Barbara Mitchell, 55, Brenda May, 53, and Tocarra May, 35. When officer William Durr, 36, arrived to the scene, Godbolt shot and killed him. Durr left behind his wife and young son.

Godbolt then went to his cousin’s home, where he shot two boys. A cousin, Shon Blackwell, said that Godbolt arrived at his home and shot his son, Jordan Blackwell, 18, and his nephew, Austin Edwards, 11.

He then went to another home and shot a man and a woman who were identified as his wife’s sister and her husband.

When Godbolt was arrested, he said that he intended to commit “suicide by cop.” However, he is alive and he now faces one count of capital murder and seven counts of first-degree murder.
