(Scroll down for video) A mother lost custody of her children after locking them in a car while she was shopping.

39-year-old Tori Lee Castillo of Utah, was arrested after she locked her two young children in the trunk of her car while she went to Walmart.

Riverdale police say the witnesses heard children screaming from inside the trunk and they saw the car shaking. The women went to the vehicle and instructed the older child how to pull the trunk’s emergency latch.

They also called police. When the child managed to pull the latch, they jumped out of the trunk and into the hands of the good Samaritans.

Police Lt. Casey Warren said that the good Samaritans saved the children who are 2 and 5-years-old.

When police arrived, Castillo was finally done shopping and came outside. She told police that she had no other choice but to lock them inside the trunk because “her babysitter did not show up.”

Castillo was charged with two counts of child abuse. Warren said that the state’s child welfare was contacted and the children were turned over to a responsible party.
