(Scroll down for video) A family was shattered when a boy was killed and his father was taken to jail after a fight over biscuits and gravy.

Police arrested 46-year-old Fred Fleener III, 46, after fatally shooting his son, 22-year-old Fred Fleener IV.

The family of Indianapolis, Indiana, stood by Fred, and told police that he shot his son in self-defense.

Krystalen, the 22-year-old man’s sister, said that he had been abusive towards his entire family as well as towards their cousin who is wheelchair bound with multiple sclerosis.

Fleener IV, who had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and had anxiety and depression issues, beat his parents when he became angry.

On the day of the shooting, Krystalen went out to buy breakfast for herself, her father, her brother and a cousin. Fleener IV became upset because he wanted a double portion.

Instead of going out to buy more food, Fleener IV, threw his food at his disabled cousin. When his father stepped in, Fleener IV assaulted him.

During the physical fight, the father pulled his gun to stop his son. Fleener IV underwent surgery, but succumbed to his injuries.

On Tuesday, the father, who called his son a “bully,” admitted to voluntary manslaughter as part of a plea deal, and was sentenced to two years of probation.
