A mother in the United Kingdom, was horrified to find her son hanging in his bedroom after he did not show up for school.

Katy Cross, 32, of Manchester, told an inquest that her son was afraid he will be punished for forgetting his books when she took him to school in the morning.

Cross explained that she was taking her son, 12-year-old Tyrese Glasgow, and his younger sister to school. On the way, her son realized that he forgot his backpack.

Cross knew that if she went back home during the morning rush hour traffic, she would be late to work. Instead, she told her son to walk home, get his backpack and go to school.

It should have taken him 10 to 15 minutes, and he would still have been in school on time. However, he never made it back.

At 1:30 p.m., Cross received a call from the school asking why her son did not come to school. The concerned mother tried calling her son, but was unsuccessful.

Her boyfriend went to the home and found the boy sitting outside. He was unable to find his key and therefore, he was locked out of the home.

He opened the door and the boy went to his room. When his mother came home, she found Glasgow hanging.

She and her partner desperately tried to revive the boy. He was rushed to the Tameside Hospital. Post-mortem tests confirmed that Glasgow died from asphyxiation.

Cross later found the boy’s house key on the floor in the car.

Cross said that her son was badly affected by the breakup of his parents when he was 5-years-old. Since then, he had a problem controlling his anger and emotional outbursts. He was receiving help from a school counselor.

The boy’s father, 35-year old Anthony Glasgow, who is former soldier and a veteran who served in Iraq, is also devastated over the loss of his son.
