(Scroll down for video) A zookeeper in the Netherlands, gave a same sex couple a chance to hatch an egg and raise a baby.

Zookeeper Job Van Tol of The Hague, said that the two male vultures that have been in a long-standing relationship, are now parents after successfully hatching the egg.

Van Tol of the Artis Amsterdam Royal Zoo said that staff members found an abandoned egg on the ground and placed it into an incubator.

Staff members then decided to take the egg and place it with the male vultures so that they can hatch the egg and have a baby of their own.

“It was a bit of risk, there was no guarantees for success, but we thought, finally, this is their chance,” Van Tol said.

They placed the egg in the enclosure with the vultures and they took care of it in their nest. The vultures took turns sitting on the egg for two months until it hatched.

Van Tol said that the gay parents have been together for a few years, and are doing their job perfectly.

He added that the new parents are very protective of the chick.
