(Scroll down for video) A cruel United States Postal Service worker fed meatballs that were spiked with nails to neighborhood dogs while delivering mail, according to police in Alabama.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said that they have arrested 47-year-old Susanna Dawn Burhans, after being accused of causing dogs to eat long nails.

Burhans has been charged with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals. She was booked into the Madison County Jail, and her bail has been set at $2,500.

According to the police investigation, Burhans worked for the United States Postal Service for 21 years. Police received a complaint from Ed Glover, after his dog Missy ate meatballs that were laced with long nails.

Glover found a meatball with nails on his lawn, and became concerned that the dog ate some. He took Missy to the vet, and an X-ray showed nails in its stomach.

Luckily, Missy survived and is doing well. Police received another complaint about meatballs laced with nails.

Investigators believe that Burhans fed meatballs laced with nails to several dogs in the neighborhood.

An official for the United States Postal Service said that Burhans has been suspended with pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.
