(Scroll down for video) A family is upset that their daughter was disqualified from playing soccer because she looked like a boy.

The Nebraska family said that they are angry about the way soccer officials treated their 8-year-old daughter's team.

The family said that Mili Hernandez and her entire team were disqualified from playing because the organizers thought that she was a boy.

Hernandez said that she does not like long hair so she gets a short haircut every time it grows a little.

Hernandez loves playing soccer. Until now, she played for Omaha's Azzuri Cachorros girls club team.

Her father, Gerardo Hernandez, said that his daughter is very good at soccer and even though she is only 8-years-old, she plays in the 11-year-old roster.

Last weekend, the 8-year-old girl led her team to the finals of the Springfield Soccer Club Girls Tournament.

However, on Sunday, before leaving for the field, Hernandez and her team were informed that everyone was disqualified and will be unable to play because organizers believed that Hernandez was a boy.

Hernandez was in shock and she questioned why her team would be punished over this issue. “Just because I look like a boy doesn't mean I am a boy. They don't have a reason to kick the whole club out,” Hernandez said.

The family showed proof that their daughter was born a girl,
but tournament officials would not budge on the decision.

Hernandez said that this incident will not stop her from playing soccer. “There's other tournaments that I can play in,” she said.

Springfield Soccer Club organizers said that the family can appeal the ruling to the Nebraska State Soccer Association.
