A married woman who wanted to hide an adulterous affair from her husband, decided to kill her newborn baby girl who was conceived by her lover, according to police in Zimbabwe.

The Matabeleland South provincial police said that they have arrested 35-year-old Soneni Sibanda, after being accused of killing her daughter just days after giving birth at a hospital.

Sibanda has been charged with one count of murder.

According to the police investigation, Sibanda is married to her husband Noel Dube, and they have three children together.

Two years ago, Dube traveled to South Africa, where he found a good paying job. Dube has not visited his wife or children for the past two years.

Sibanda began having an affair with a man in her neighborhood.

Sibanda got pregnant, and she told her neighbors that her husband was fine with her giving birth to a child who is not his.

On Thursday, Sibanda went into labor and was taken to the Kezi District Hospital, where she gave birth to a healthy baby girl. The new mother was discharged on Monday.

On her way home, Sibanda strangled her daughter and buried her in a shallow grave in order to conceal the birth and affair from her husband.

When Sibanda’s neighbors failed to see her with a baby, they became suspicious. They then realized that Sibanda was lying about her husband being fine with her affair, and they called the police.
