The Georgia father shot dead his grandson’s father after the man shot his daughter in the back during a heated argument.

Floyd Rusk, 57, came to the defense of his daughter, Jessica Rusk, 22, when she was attacked by her boyfriend, Thomas ‘TJ’ McNulty, 25, at the Rusk family home in Gainesville.

According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, McNulty, who has a young son with Jessica, shot her in the back with a shotgun during a domestic dispute that broke out around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The young family lived in the basement of Floyd and Martha Rusk’s house. Jessica’s mother called 911 for after the shooting.

While the deputies were on their way to the scene, Floyd grabbed a gun and shot McNulty several times in order to stop him from shooting his daughter again.

McNulty was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jessica was taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

So far, no charges have been brought against the father as police believe he acted to save his daughter’s life.

Two weeks ago, McNulty was fired from his IT job after he went to a job site while carrying his handgun.

His former boss Scott Corathers, said that McNulty apologized and said that he forgot that he had the gun in his back pocket.
