Driver flees scene of accident with fire hydrant stuck in car and hides in restaurant

An illegal immigrant fled the scene of an accident with a fire hydrant lodged in his vehicle, according to police in New Jersey.

Parsippany police said that they have arrested 27-year-old Domingo Moreno, who is illegally residing in the United States, after being accused of leaving the scene of an accident.

Moreno has been charged with criminal mischief, tampering with evidence, hindering apprehension, failure to report an accident, unlicensed driver, careless driving, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.

He was handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

According to the police investigation, on Tuesday around 1:00 a.m., Moreno was driving a 1999 Nissan Quest on Edwards Road, when his car struck a fire hydrant and a mailbox.

Moreno continued driving with the fire hydrant lodged in his vehicle. Police officers who arrived at the scene, followed a trail of water and located the car.

Moreno was found hiding in a nearby restaurant.
