A mother admitted to burning her son with hot coffee because she wanted to teach him a lesson, according to police in Iowa.

Council Bluffs police said that they have arrested 36-year-old Rebecca Brahier, after being accused of burning her 1-year-old son with hot coffee.

In court, Brahier pleaded guilty to one count of child endangerment causing injury. A judge sentenced her to serve five years in prison.

According to the police investigation, Brahier prepared a hot coffee and lied down on her bed with her 1-year-old son beside her.

The child then tried to grab the cup of hot coffee. Brahier told police that in order to teach her son a lesson, she forced his arm into the hot coffee.

After suffering serious injuries, Brahier washed her son’s arm with cold water and took him to the Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

Doctors called police after they suspected this was a case of child abuse.

Police questioned Brahier at the hospital, and she admitted to burning her son to teach him not to touch hot beverages.
