14-year-old boy shoots his twin brother to death while trying to kill snake

(Scroll down for video) A teenage boy was shot and killed by his own twin brother who tried to kill a snake, according to police in Texas.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office said that an attempt to shoot a snake found in a ditch of water on CR 2342 in mid-Liberty County, resulted in a fourteen-year-old boy accidentally shooting his twin brother in the right side of the head with a .22 rifle.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting the shooting.

Lead Investigator Deputy John Tucker who received the initial call, said that when he arrived, one brother quickly admitted to the shooting.

According to Tucker, the twin said that he and his brother saw a snake in the drainage ditch, and they went into the house and retrieved two .22 caliber rifles.

Just as one of the brothers aimed at the snake, the victim suddenly knelt down in between the snake and his brother, and was shot approximately half an inch above the right ear.

Life Flight was called to the scene, and at the time, the young man was transported to Herman Hospital. He was non-responsive.

Investigators with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office have confirmed with the medical officials in Houston, that the young 14-year-old boy who was accidentally shot by his twin brother passed away on Tuesday night.

The victim was identified as Kollsen Carter.

“The investigation is still on-going, but at this time, we do not anticipate any charges being filed in this tragic accidental shooting,” police said.
