(Scroll down for video) A family is trying to make sense of a horrific tragedy that took the life of their loved one.

50-year-old Karleton Wright of Detroit, Michigan, was charged with second-degree murder over the death of his son, 36-year-old Eric Hatchett.

Hatchett is survived by 18 children, nine boys and nine girls.

Family members said that Hatchett did not have a good relationship with his father.

Last year, the two reconnected and they were trying to build a relationship. As the two men began getting to know each other, Wright allowed his son to work at his auto-repair shop on the Lodge Freeway near Pembroke.

Sadly, according to his mother Sandra Beavers, the father and son shared a violent temper. They both had domestic violence issues, according to Beavers.

On the day of the incident, the two got into an argument, and Hatchett allegedly punched his father in the face. Wright retaliated by pulling a gun and shooting his son dead.

Wright is being held without bond.
