4-year-old girl calls police to report her babysitter drowning in pool

(Scroll down for video) A very young girl is being hailed as a hero for calling police to report her babysitter who was drowning in her home’s swimming pool, according to police in Canada.

York Regional Police said that the 20-year-old woman from the Town of Newmarket, is in life-threatening condition after being pulled from the backyard swimming pool.

According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Friday, just before 5:00 p.m.

Police rushed to a home in the area of Davis Drive and Leslie Street, after the 4-year-old girl called 9-1-1 to report that her 20-year-old babysitter had accidentally gone into the deep end of the swimming pool and was unresponsive.

A firefighter who arrived at the scene first, dove into the pool and pulled out the woman. The firefighter performed CPR until paramedics arrived at the scene.

The 20-year-old babysitter was taken to the Southlake Regional Health Centre, where she is said to be in life-threatening condition.

The 4-year-old girl was not injured. This incident is not considered suspicious. Police said that if not for the quick action of the very young girl, the babysitter would have died.
