The Seattle police Department have confirmed that two officers were involved in the shooting death of 30-year-old Charleena Lyles, after she called to report a possible burglary.

According to the police investigation, shortly before 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, two patrol officers responded to the burglary report in the woman’s apartment building in the 6800 block of 62nd Avenue NE.

Although this was a typical burglary report, two officers were required due to information pertaining to this address that presented an increased risk to officers.

Officers arrived and went to the fourth floor to meet with the complainant.

Officers were confronted by Lyles, who was armed with a knife.

Lyles then screamed: “You ready? Motherf****r.”

Both officers fired their duty weapons, striking the woman.

The officers immediately performed first aid while the Seattle Fire Department responded, but the firefighters declared her deceased once they arrived.

There were several children inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, but they were not injured.

The two boys and one girl, aged 11, 4, and 1, are being cared for by other family members at this time.

The woman’s fourth child was not living with Lyles at the time of the shooting.

Both officers who discharged their weapons during the incident, will be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, in accordance with department protocol.

Lyles’ family claimed that she was several months pregnant.
