A father and his young son were injured after the boy rammed a rented motorboat into a ferry, according to police in Switzerland.

Canton police said that two people were injured in the boat accident on Sunday afternoon on Lake Constance near Romanshorn.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m., the 42-year-old man and his 4-year-old son steered their rented motorboat several hundred meters offshore the port of Romanshorn.

At some point, the father left his son at the wheel of the rental boat. After a sudden change of direction, they found themselves in the path of the speeding ferry.

The father quickly grabbed the wheel from his 4-year-old son in an attempt to get out of the way of the ferry, but it was too late.

Luckily, the captain of the ferry slowed down the speed of his vessel, softening the intensity of the collision. The father and his son suffered moderate injuries as a result of the impact.

The motorboat suffered 3,000 francs ($3,000) in damages. The ferry did not suffer any damage. The father and son were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and were released.

No charges have been filed.
