(Scroll down for video) People traveling on a bus in China, were surprised when their driver pulled off the road instead of taking them to their destination.

However, it soon became clear to them that he was a hero as he managed to save their lives.

The bus driver in Shanghai, died of a suspected heart attack just minutes after bringing his vehicle to a safe stop at the side of the road.

Video of the incident that was uploaded to YouTube, shows 42-year-old Xie Shihai driving bus No. 177 when he pulled over to the side of the road.

He then immediately collapsed. Passengers were able to free the driver from his seat, and one passenger performed CPR while others called for help.

When the paramedics arrived, they tried to save him, but were not successful.

Shihai worked for the Shangnan Bus Company, since 2010. The company employs 2,000 drivers, all of whom are required to have annual health checks. Shihai’s report did not show a history of poor health.
