A judge in the United Kingdom, handed down justice against a woman who was trying to get money for free by suing a business.
54-year-old Yvette Thomas filed a lawsuit seeking £200,000 ($250,000) compensation claim against a car repair shop, claiming that she fell over a hose in their workshop.
She claimed that her dependence on crutches and a cane led her to be fired from her job. She also stated that she had been forced to cancel a vacation, stop dancing salsa and stop going to the gym.
The mother of two, had her family members testify on her behalf to support her claims.
However, staff members at Southwick Car Centre in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, denied the allegations that Thomas fell in their place of business. They claimed that a hose was brushed against her leg, but she was never injured.
In court, the defense showed the judge photos that were taken by a private investigator, showing Thomas walking without any sign of physical impediment.
The X-rays from the emergency room visit on the day of the incident also showed no signs of trauma.
District Judge Francis Goddard was told that the Bath County Court found that there was no evidence that Thomas was hurt at the car repair shop.
The judge dismissed her case and ordered her to pay the business £70,000 ($90,000). £20,000 ($25,000) must be paid within 14 days.
