(Scroll down for video) A trip that was supposed to be a time for bonding between father and son, turned into a nightmare.

Police said that 14-year-old Vincent “Vinnie” Colonna of Florida, was at a gun range with his father when he turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.

The father and son were at the Gun World of South Florida located on 1700 S. Powerline Road, at around 1:15 p.m., when the boy fell to the ground after suffering a gunshot wound.

Police in Deerfield Beach, determined that the teen shot himself in an apparent suicide. However, Vinnie’s brokenhearted family is not convinced that the teen committed suicide, and they think the boy’s death was an accident.

His older brother Chris wrote a touching tribute post on Facebook. “I’m praying to God it was an accident. I wanted more for you than anyone could’ve ever imagined. I wanted you to do what I couldn’t where I failed. I promise I’m going to make you proud in everything I do from here on out.”

Both of Vinnie’s grandmothers ran to the shooting range after learning about the incident. The teenager was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
