(Scroll down for video) A man was rushed to a hospital in extremely critical condition after being bitten by a venomous snake that he was trying to kill, according to police in Texas.

The incident unfolded on Sunday, at round 9:00 p.m., when 53-year-old Milton Richard of Martin County, spotted a rattlesnake in his back yard.

Richard tried to kill the snake, but in the process, the reptile bit him on the hand. His wife Debbie said that just after two minutes, Richard began feeling his limbs getting numb.

Debbie called for help, but the nearest hospital was 25 miles away. By the time Richard arrived at the hospital, he was in extremely critical condition.

Richard was given antivenom and was flown to the UMC in Lubbock. Richard was placed into the intensive care unit, and was given 80 doses of antivenom.

Doctors determined that Richard was bitten by a Mojave green rattlesnake, which is extremely poisonous. Doctors will perform CT scans on Richard’s entire body to see how the poison damaged his organs.
