A man who lived with his mother’s dead body for several days decided to dump her on the street when their apartment began to smell, according to police in Japan.

Osaka police said that they have arrested the 49-year-old man, who was not identified, after he was seen dragging his mother’s dead body on the street.

The man has been charged with one count of abandoning a corpse.

According to the police investigation, the man and his mother, 74-year-old Michie Ishihara, shared an apartment. Earlier this month, Ishihara died at the home.

The woman’s son removed her clothes and left her lying in bed.

A week later, the apartment began to smell. The son then dragged his mother’s naked dead body out in the street and left her on the ground.

Neighbors who saw the man dragging his dead mother’s body called the police. Police officers who arrived at the scene, found no evidence of trauma on the woman’s body.

During questioning, the woman’s son told police that he dumped the body in the street because his apartment smelled.
