A couple is devastated over the loss of the twin babies who died in a bus accident.

The couple was the sole survivors of the accident that claimed the lives of seven people including their twins.

Shedrack and Mercy Audu of Nasarawa, Nigeria, welcomed the set of twins, a boy and girl, after trying to conceive for 17 years.

The couple met in 1998 at the University of Jos, where Shedrack was studying for his Master’s degree in Business Management and Mercy was a student in the Theatre Arts department.

After they got married, the couple tried for 17 years to get pregnant.

The family was overjoyed with the birth of their children, but sadly, their happiness was short lived and they are now devastated over the loss of their twins, Joseph and Philomena.

Shedrack, 50, who is a lecturer at Nasarawa State Polytechnic, his wife Mercy, 42, and their 5-month-old twins, were on their way to visit their friend Fidelis Mbaka in Makurdi, Benue State, to show him their bundles of joy.

While riding in the commercial bus, a truck that was trying to avoid a pothole swerved into the oncoming lane and hit the bus head on.

The driver and seven passengers were killed. Shedrack and Mercy were the only people who survived the crash. They were taken to a hospital for treatment before being released.

Shedrack said that he was holding his son while his wife was holding her daughter when the truck slammed into the bus. The babies died instantly.
