(Scroll down for video) A brand new fire truck exploded while traveling on a highway, causing a large wildfire that destroyed many acres full of trees, according to police in Washington.

The Richland Fire Department spent $215,000 for the new fire truck.

On Monday, at around 5:00 p,m., the fire truck was traveling on Interstate 82 when the engine exploded. The firefighter who drove the truck said that he heard an explosion and lost power.

The brakes failed and he had to stop the truck with the emergency brakes. When the firefighter managed to stop the fire truck and escape, the flames already engulfed the entire truck.

Sparks flew from the truck, igniting the brush on the side of the highway. A large wildfire broke out, which destroyed 15 acres. It took firefighters an hour to extinguish all the flames.

Luckily, no injuries were reported, but the fire truck was a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
