A woman who claimed to be a lesbian, falsely accused multiple men of rape, according to police in the United Kingdom.
Now, the woman has been convicted of perjury and perverting the course of justice after she made a series of false rape and sexual assault allegations to police over a three-year period.
Jemma Beale, 25, of Bedfont, Hounslow, was found guilty of four counts of perjury and four counts of perverting the course of justice, following a six-week trial at the Southwark Crown Court.
She was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced next month.
Detectives from the Met’s Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse (SOECA) Command launched an investigation into Beale, after they learned of a claim by one of Beale’s former lesbian girlfriends that a man – Mahad Cassim – had been wrongly jailed after Beale had lied that she had been raped by him.
The information came to light when officers were investigating a separate allegation by Beale, where she claimed to have been raped by a number of men, including two men known to her, during an incident in Feltham.
With concerns over Beale’s accounts, officers carried out a review of four investigations into allegations of rape and sexual assaults made by Beale over a three year period.
Police found common discrepancies and similar circumstances within the allegations, which strengthened their suspicions that Beale may have fabricated them.
One of the rape allegations made to police by Beale, led to the conviction of Mahad Cassim, who was jailed for seven years.
After the Crown Prosecution Service and his defense team were alerted to the fact that there were serious doubts over the validity of Beale’s allegations, Cassim subsequently appealed his conviction and it was quashed at the Court of Appeal.
In another case, Beale claimed she had been sexually assaulted by Noam Shazad in a pub, and then subjected to a serious sexual assault, where she claimed barbed wire had been used on her by him and a gang of three others in the car park in Hounslow.
Shazad was charged with assault by penetration and sexual assault, but fled the U.K. for Pakistan, prior to his trial.
All charges against Shazad have since been dropped and he is no longer wanted in relation to any of these matters.
After further enquiries, Beale was arrested, but she maintained that she was not making up any of the allegations – despite mounting evidence that they were false.
During the trial, Beale even accused four separate doctors and medical professionals that they had provided wrongful evidence, rather than admit that she was lying.
However, the jury found her guilty of four counts of perjury and four counts of perverting the course of justice.
“Beale is responsible for fabricating a series of extremely serious allegations, which led to several extensive investigations being carried out, and teams of detectives and specialist officers spending thousands of hours on the cases and providing support to her.
“Her manipulation of the criminal justice system has caused police to direct significant amounts of resource into investigating her bogus complaints as well as her own offending.
“She has also significantly impacted on the NHS as a result of her complaints and used up many other limited resources that are relied upon by genuine survivors.
“Not only that, but she then went on to give false testimony at court, which resulted in the wrongful conviction and imprisonment of a completely innocent man.
“Beale has been exposed as a serial liar, and I can only think that she was motivated partly by financial reward, but mainly the attention and control over her partners and family at the time she made the allegations.
“The impact on those she falsely accused has been devastating, however, hopefully, the outcome now fully exonerates all the men she falsely accused of such heinous crimes,” Detective Sergeant Kevin Lynott.
In total, Beale accused 15 innocent men of raping her. In court, she claimed said she was a lesbian since the age of 10, and had no interest in men.
