Police were called to a home after a man broke down the door and kidnapped a baby.

Police in North Carolina, said that Halifax County Deputies
were dispatched at about 12:05 a.m., to a home invasion, during which the suspect did not steal possessions, but rather he kidnapped a baby.

Deputies responded to the residence on Cloverleaf Drive, Roanoke Rapids, in reference to the missing one-year-old child.

The investigation led them to registered sex offender 25-year-old Alexander Jamond Ezell.

The child was found at Ezell’s home. Sadly, he had already raped the child and he fled from his home when he heard police arriving. The baby was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Deputies used a k-9 to locate the suspect. He was found hiding in the woods behind his house on Cloverleaf Drive.

Ezell was charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping, attempted statutory rape, abduction of a child, indecent liberties with a minor, injury to real property and resisting arrest.

Ezell is being held in the Halifax County Detention Center under a $505,000 secured bond.

Ezell was previously placed on the sex offender registry after being found guilty of sexual battery.
