A man was hospitalized and is said to be in critical condition after he suffered severe burns to his body.

42-year-old Yuko Ono of Sakai, Japan, was arrested for allegedly setting the man on fire and causing burns all over his body, police said.

Ono, who was charged with attempted murder, told investigators that she poured ethanol on her boyfriend because he suspected he had an affair and wanted to “disinfect his dirty body.”

The man, who is 40-years-old, was sitting in a parked car and lit a cigarette when he was assaulted, causing him to explode in ball of fire.

The man ran into a nearby appliance store while he was on fire and the store owner poured water on him. He was taken to a hospital, where he is in critical condition.

The 49-year-old store owner said that there were no customers in the store when the man entered while he was in flames.

“The man tried to take off his clothes, shouting ‘it’s hot’, so I tried desperately to put out the fire by pouring a bucket of water over him,” the owner said.

The store and some merchandise suffered damage. “I’m relieved that the fire did not spread all over the store,” he added.

Witnesses told police that Ono was with the man in a white car that was parked near the shop.

Then they smelled something burning, and they watched as the man ran out of the car while the woman drove away.

Police later found the car in a nearby parking lot with the driver’s seat burned. However, Ono had fled after the incident.

She surrendered to the police a few days later along with a lawyer.
