(Scroll down for video) A young girl died while taking a bath after trying to use her cell phone that was plugged into an electrical outlet, according to police in New Mexico.

The Lovington Police Department said that the incident unfolded at around 12:30 a.m., on Sunday, at the girl’s home, which is located in the 800 block of West Avenue H.

Paramedics who responded to the scene, attempted to revive 14-year-old Madison Coe, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Coe’s mother and grandmother told investigators that the girl was taking a bath when she decided to check her cell phone, which was plugged into an electrical outlet.

The cell phone burned her hand, which was wet. The cell phone then fell into the bathtub, and Coe was electrocuted. Police launched an investigation, and are waiting for the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
