People in New York, were shocked to learn that their beloved pastor committed suicide.

The New York Police Department said that 61-year-old Amaurys Mella, who was the pastor at the Letting Christ Be Known evangelical church in the Bronx, was pulled from the water on Thursday, at around 9:30 a.m.

The pastor’s son-in-law found the dead body in the water at the Evers Marina, and called police. Police officers who responded to the scene, found a suicide note in the pastor’s car.

According to the police investigation, Mella tied a dumbbell around his neck, and jumped into the water. The pastor was declared dead at the scene.

The pastor’s family members said that Mella suffered from depression.

A member of his church had accused Mella of kidnapping and sexually assaulting his daughter, but no charges have been filed since she was 17 years old and claimed that the relationship was consensual.

Mella denied the allegations, claiming that the girl’s father was blackmailing him for money.
