(Scroll down for video) A family’s day out on a lake turned into a tragedy in a moment of distraction.

Sherwood Anderson of Colorado, took his wife and two daughters out for a boat ride and to water ski.

The family was spending time at the Newfound Lake, in New Hampshire.

12-year-old Zoe Anderson was water-skiing while her father was operating the boat with her mother and sister by his side.

At about 8:30 a.m., Zoe fell. Her father steered the towing boat back toward her. The boat was on neutral and was not going fast.

However, for a few seconds, Sherwood became distracted when his hat fell off his head. That is when he accidentally ran over Zoe.

The girl suffered serious injuries to her torso and was immediately pulled onto the boat by her family. She was quickly taken to shore, where CPR was performed.

Sadly, she did not survive.
