(Scroll down for video) A married teacher told a judge that a mental illness is to blame for her having sex with a student, according to court documents in Nebraska.

Nebraska City police said that they have arrested 27-year-old Emily Lofing, after being accused of having sex with the 16-year-old boy on his birthday.

In court, Lofing pleaded no contest to contributing to the delinquency of a child.

County Judge John Steinheider sentenced her 90 days in prison as well as to two years probation, a $1,000 fine, and 240 hours of community service.

Lofing voluntarily gave up her teaching certificate.

According to the police investigation, Lofing was an English teacher at Nebraska City Middle School. At some point, Lofing hooked up with a teenage boy.

On the day that the boy turned 16 years old, Lofing had sex with him despite the fact that she was married.

In court, Lofing’s defense attorney blamed her actions on her mental illness, saying that she has a family history of depression and stress due to work.
