(Scroll down for video) Police were called by a Walmart employee after an illegal immigrant begged him for water and informed him about dead people in a truck.

Police soon discovered 38 men in the hot tractor trailer, which did not have a working air condition. 8 men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Temperatures in San Antonio, topped 90 degrees, causing people to die. The 30 remaining people were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

One man died on the way to the hospital, bringing the death toll to 9 while 17 others are in critical condition.

Police arrested the driver, 60-year-old James Mathew Bradley Jr., who is from Clearwater, Florida.

Police chief William McManus said that investigators reviewed surveillance video, which showed vehicles arriving to the area, approaching the tractor trailer and driving away with some of the illegal immigrants.

They believe that there may have been more than 100 people in the truck.

This discovery turned it into a human trafficking case. The police chief added that the Department of Homeland Security and ICE have now joined the investigation.

They believe that the people fell victims to smuggling networks that carry out their dangerous practices focusing solely on profits.
