(Scroll down for video) People were shocked to hear a lawyer call a child killer “a good girl.”

Ohio police said that they have arrested 18-year-old Brooke Skylar Richardson of Carlisle, after being accused of killing her newborn baby and burying her in a shallow grave.

Richardson has been charged with one count of reckless homicide. She was booked into the Warren County Jail, and her bail has been set at $15,000.

If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison.

According to the police investigation, Richardson was a cheerleader in high school. Several months ago, she gave birth to a live baby.

She quickly killed the child and buried the remains outside her home. Attorney Charles Rittgers said that his client is a “good girl” who never drank or smoked.

She also helped disabled children. Police learned about the crime after receiving a tip from a doctor.

Warren County Prosecutor David P. Fornshell said: “In response to various media and public inquiries regarding the Brooke “Skylar” Richardson case, the filing of a preliminary charge of reckless homicide is based upon evidence that the infant whose remains were discovered at the defendant’s residence in Carlisle last week, was born alive and was not a stillborn baby.”
