Melissa police said that they have arrested 33-year-old Michael Shannon Thedford, after being accused of causing the death of his 6-month-old daughter by forgetting her in his hot minivan.

Thedford has been charged with one count of manslaughter. He was booked into the Collin County Jail, and his bail has been set at $20,000.

According to the police investigation, on Tuesday morning, Thedford took his 5-year-old and 3-year-old children to daycare.

He placed his 6-month-old daughter Fern, in the back of his minivan. After dropping off his two children, Thedford drove back home.

Fern did not go to daycare because she had a virus and was running a fever. Thedford went back into his house, but forgot Fern in the minivan.

Thedford went to sleep, and woke up several hours later. When he realized that his baby was not home, he ran out and grabbed Fern from the vehicle.

Fern was very hot and stiff. Thedford put her in a fridge for some time, and called the police. Fern was declared dead at the scene.

The official high temperature in North Texas on Tuesday was 98 degrees.
