61-year-old Edward Moore of Missouri, was arrested for beating the homeless people with a hammer over the head while they were sleeping in a vacant St. Louis school building.

All of the victims were bloody and were rushed to a hospital. All of them suffered head trauma, police said.

Two people were critically injured while others needed stitches on the head. A 39-year-old man is in critical but stable condition while a woman, 37, is fighting for her life, and doctors are working to stabilize her.

Moore was charged with four counts of assault and armed criminal action. His bond was set at $500,000.

One of the victims said that the attack began after Moore, who is also homeless, accused the victims of going through his belongings and taking his prescription pills.

Local residents hope that authorities will board up the abandoned school to keep people out.
