(Scroll down for video) Police are warning people not to help strangers by offering them rides after a woman kidnapped a baby from a man who helped her.

The 52-year-old father of New Hampshire, told police that he spotted the woman walking on the side of the road so he stopped and offered her a ride.

The woman, 25-year-old Joanne Shaw of Rochester, accepted his offer. However, after she got into the car, things took a bizarre turn.

Shaw began unbuckling the man’s 21-month-old daughter who was in a car seat. She told the good Samaritan that she is taking his child with her.

As the father tried to stop the woman, a struggled ensued. The father pulled over and according to police, the woman became violent.

She broke the key so that the father cannot use the car to stop her from taking his baby, police said.

Shaw allegedly punched the father in the face twice before running off with the baby. The father ran after her while calling police.

When officers arrived, they managed to remove the baby from Shaw.

Assistant Strafford County Attorney Joachim Barth said that while she was in the presence of police officers, “Shaw tried to regain possession of the child.”

Shaw, who reportedly suffers from mental health issues, was charged with kidnapping and bail was set at $25,000 cash.
