70-year-old taxi driver shoots and kills passenger during ride

(Scroll down for video) Police were called to the scene of a shooting after a taxi driver fatally shot his passenger.

The incident unfolded at 1:00 a.m., on Interstate 70, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Officers who arrived at the scene, found that the passenger had suffered a gunshot wound.

Paramedics from the Northeast Ambulance and Fire Protection District were called, but they were unable to save the man who was lying in the back seat of the taxi minivan.

They pronounced the man dead at the scene. Police identified the deceased man as 48-year-old Ahmad Saramah.

The 70-year-old driver, who was still at the scene when police arrived, has not been named and he is cooperating with police.

The driver was taken into custody for questioning. According to police, the elderly driver told detectives that an altercation broke out between him and the passenger.

As some point, things got heated and the driver feared for his life. The driver said that he shot his passenger in self-defense.

Saramah lived in the 8400 block of Bayberry Drive in Berkeley.
