(Scroll down for video) Cat owners in California, were pleased that a judge sentenced a serial cat killer to the maximum possible.

The animal lovers filled the courtroom and had photos of their beloved cats that were stolen and tortured by 25-year-old Robert Farmer, before he brutally killed them.

According to court records, a necropsy showed that at least one cat died of blunt force trauma and may have been sexually abused.

The cat’s owner wanted Farmer to register as a sex offender, but he was not ordered to do so as part of his plea deal with prosecutors.

Farmer pleaded guilty to killing 18 cats and injuring three more. Before sentencing, the judge read the names of all of the cats that were killed out loud.

The incidents unfolded in the Cambrian Park area in San Jose in 2015. One family’s surveillance video showed Farmer walking onto their property and stealing their cat.

That cat was found dead in Farmer’s car. Police also found bits of skin, blood, gloves covered in fur and a hunting knife in the vehicle.

Farmer was sentenced to 16 years in prison. He was banned from coming within 100 yards of the Cambrian Park neighborhood and he will not be allowed to own or care for a pet for 10 years after his release from prison.

Miriam Petrova said that the sentencing provided closure for her and others whose pets were victimized by Farmer.

“Finally, today, after almost two years and 15 hearings, we got justice for our babies!!!” She wrote on Facebook.
