Philippine mayor, wife, brother and 14 others killed during drug bust

(Scroll down for video) President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines, promised to clean up the country as it is riddled with drug crimes.

During his efforts to crackdown on illegal drugs, it was uncovered that mayors of some cities have been involved in narcotics trafficking.

So far, mayors of three cities have been killed.

In the latest deadly incident, Reynaldo Parojinog, who is the mayor of Ozamiz city, was killed during a gun battle with police who served him a search warrant at his home.

Parojinog, who also faced corruption charges, had denied any links to illegal drugs.

After carrying out the raid, officers tried to take the mayor and others into custody, but the group reportedly resisted arrest.

During a subsequent shootout between the mayor’s security team and police, the mayor and 11 others were killed.

Parojinog’s wife Susan, his brother Board Member Octavio Parojinog Jr., his sister Mona, and 11 security personnel were killed and one officer was wounded.

Parojinog’s daughter Vice Mayor Nova Echaves, and her brother Reynaldo Parojinog, Jr., survived and were arrested.

Three other houses were also raided in Misamis Occidental province and resulted in the arrests of five suspects.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said that drugs, money and weapons were found in the homes.
