A New York man is accused of raping a mother of two children after a grand jury allowed him to walk free despite an earlier rape.

Ulster County police have arrested 23-year-old Jean Carlos Colon of 5 Glass St., in Ellenville, on charges including rape and burglary.

According to the arrest report, Colon broke into the woman’s home while her two daughters were inside.

The 40-year-old woman was sleeping when Colon came into her home in the early morning hours and attacked her.

Colon fled from the home when one of the victim’s two daughters heard her screaming and came into the room.

Police identified Colon as a suspect, and within two hours of the incident, he was arrested at a bus stop on Canal Street.

Colon was charged with rape, burglary, attempted criminal sexual act, and two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

In May, Colon was also arrested in connection with another forced sex crime against a different woman in Ellenville. The charges from that incident were dismissed by a grand jury, according to a police press release.

In the first incident, police said that the Colon grabbed the victim from the street and pulled her into an alley, where he sodomized her several times before fleeing on a bicycle.

The woman, who did not know the suspect, was taken to a hospital, where she received treatment for injuries caused by the suspect during the attack, police said.
