Elmira police said that they have arrested 17-year-old Harriette Hoyt, after being accused of dumping her 8-month-old baby on the street behind bushes and leaving her to die.

Hoyt has been charged with one count of attempted murder.

She was booked into the Chemung County Jail, and she is being held without bail.

According to the police investigation, Hoyt was 16 years old when she gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

When the baby turned 8 months old, Hoyt decided she did not want her anymore.

Hoyt put her daughter in a plastic bag, drove about 20 miles and dumped her behind bushes. After three days, sisters Kayla and Karen Seals heard odd noises.

When they took a closer look, they found the baby in plastic bag behind bushes. They quickly rendered aid to the baby and called for help.

The baby was taken to a nearby hospital, where she is said to be in stable condition.
