(Scroll down for video) What started as a fun sleepover ended with one girl in the hospital and another in jail.

11-year-old Jamoneisha “Mone” Merritt of the Bronx, in New York, was invited to a sleepover with some friends.

At some point, she allegedly pranked her friend and poured a cup of cold water over her friend, 12-year-old Aniya Grant Stuart.

Stuart warned Merritt that she will get back at her. When Merritt fell asleep, her 12-year-old friend boiled some water and poured it over her.

Merritt woke up screaming in pain and was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where she is in serious but stable condition.

She is being treated for second-degree burns to her face, back, shoulders, neck and chest.

Merritt’s mother believes that her daughter was burned as part of the Facebook “hot water challenge.”

Stuart was arrested on charges of assault. Her mother Shernett Panton, said the incident occurred at around 4: 00 a.m.

Panton said that the girls were good friends and “they always pranked each other.”

She does not condone the fact that her daughter used hot water to “get back” at her friend over the cold water prank. She believes her daughter made a childish mistake, which she deeply regrets.

Panton said that after her daughter saw photos of her friend’s injuries, she was so distraught that she stabbed herself with a knife in an attempt to commit suicide.

She was hospitalized and is on suicide watch.
