(Scroll down for video) A man lost his life while entering a burning home to get his cell phone.

An investigation is underway over the cause of a fire that led to the death of the man in Anderson County, South Carolina.

Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman said the victim, 22-year-old Patrick Cain Chipwood, died of smoke inhalation.

The fire broke out at his mobile home at around 3:00 a.m. Boseman said a woman woke up and saw smoke in their trailer.

She woke up the 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl who was sleeping in the home. They all made it out safely.

However, Boseman said that Chipwood ran back into the burning home to retrieve his phone and did not come out again.

When firefighters determined that it was safe enough for them to enter the home, they found Chipwood's body in the back room of the trailer.

In an obituary, his girlfriend Savannah Hope Simmons, wrote: "You treated me like a princess. You loved me with an unconditional love. You mean the world to me and I just want you to know I love you so much."
