A teenager in India, was making his parents proud by going to college to get a degree in engineering.

However, the teenager took his own life when his father refused to buy him a video game worth 3,000 rupees ($47).

For one week, the 17-year-old boy, who was identified as G. Abhinay, repeatedly asked his father, who was identified as G. Srinivas, to buy him a video game.

When his father refused to buy him the video game, the teen cut his wrist and jumped off a second-story balcony. He died at the scene.

Srinivas told police that he refused to buy his son the video game because he felt that would hinder his studies.

In addition, the family had recently bought a new home in Hyderabad, and they spent a lot of money for the house so the mother did not want to spend money on the video game.

The teen's death was officially ruled as a suicide, but police are still investigating the matter.
